The DINNER ~ Wheelsy AU

She'd been working two days, a day to get a handle on the simple art of flower arranging (complicated stuff would come later) and to start learning delivery routes. It had been nice to be moving again, doing something, anything, constructive and today...

...today she actually teleported back to Bill's house with an armload of groceries and flailed. "I'M RUNNING LATE! DID THE ROAST IN THE CROCKPOT TURN OUT...wait. YOU"RE NOT HOME ARE YOU?!"

It probably wasn't time for him to be home. Meep. Talking to an empty house and running late on starting the meal still! Right! Dough! Dough first, for bread and a sweet dough for tarts. Those needed to rise, then she could start peeling potatoes...

Right. She could do this. She flipped on the radio, tossed her floral shop hat on the counter and stared COOKING. Dancing and cooking but hey who didn't need music to cook well? "Knife!" she called out, years of habit having the warning go out amidst the music so no one got hit by the knife headed toward the sink.

She tended to throw things when she was cooking. Yep.

The morning after

Clarice was a heavy sleeper, when she wasn't having nightmares. It came of never knowing when she'd get a good night's sleep again. Still, she was not a still sleeper. That meant she rolled and twisted some in the night; her frozen peas slipping down between herself and Bill some time around three in the morining.

And well, she shifted where her head was resting too. Next to his on the pillow, his shoulde,r his chest. It was probably past dawn when she settled with her head on his belly, still asleep.

Wheelsy AU ~ Tire changing

"You know Bill..." Clarice drawled cheerfully. "When you said you wanted to show me the nearest 'city' I thought you meant we'd actually get there." She took her hat off and fanned herself with it, the ballcap doing little to stir the hot, damp air, but at least it was better than glowering.

"And yeah, that really does look like dry rot in the spare there. Never seen it in a tire before but I've seen it in other materials..." She wasn't even sure why they had headed out. A better bar where no one expected him to fix their problems? A place she was suppose to get fitted for a civilian aid uniform? Who knew!

Wheelsy AU ~ Phone calls

The phone rang at something like noon. 'Something like' because Clarice had been sleeping and the clock wasn't anywhere near the couch. A good part of her wanted to toss the noisy thing out the window and roll back over on the couch, but the rest of her felt rather obliged to do otherwise. A moment of fumbling then in as cheerful a voice as she could manage "Hello, Bill's phone. He's out of town can I take a message?"

If it was the doc, or an emergency, she'd forgive them. Sadly it was neither. "Hello, is this Clarice?"

Blink took a moment to evaluate, trying to place the voice, then shrugged. "Yes ma'am it is. May I ask who's calling?"

The voice on the other line gave a laugh, a practiced, bright sound that made Clarice wince. "Oh, sorry, where are my manners? I'm Starla. Starla Grant."

In retrospect, it was a good thing this reality didn't have video phones because Clarice was sure that her face didn't look too pleasant at that revelation. She knew her voice was cooler at least. "I see. How can I help you Mrs. Grant?" She was rather certain that if Bill had gotten a last minute 'no, don't leave, stay with me forever' from this woman that he'd have called himself. Ergo...Starla was probably on a fact finding mission.

"Oh! Ah, I was just wondering if Bill was home yet?" To give the woman credit she did bright and a little clueless really damn well.

"Considering you bought the plane tickets I'm going to guess you know better than that Mrs. Grant. I'm also quite sure he'll call you himself when he gets home safely; he's thoughtful like that. So...pull the other leg? It's not currently belled but I could still make jingle noises for you." Sometimes, and she was more than happy to admit it, Clarice could be a snarky bitch.

"Well I..." Now Starla sounded a bit affronted. All to the good in Blink's book, after all she'd given Bill grief for years it seemed.

"...didn't really think this call through? No ma'am you didn't. Why don't you just cut to the chase? I am a big girl I can handle direct questioning." And it was really early for her to be awake. She preferred this call over with as soon as possible.

"Well fine then." Some of the clueless sweetness leaked out of Starla's voice, and Clarice had to admit it was an improvement. "I did call to talk to you."

Well, there was a revelation. "And? Is it judgement time yet then?"

Starla sniffed through the phone. "I'm not sure I like the idea of Bill sharing a house with you. You're not a very polite person are you?"

Ah, there it was. Clarice smiled and twirled a nearby pen between her fingers since...well, she liked to move while talking honestly. "What you like and don't like, Mrs. Starla, hardly matters in this case."

"What?!" Ah, that was outrage. Clarice knew that sound! "Bill's my friend! Of course it matters!"

"No." Clarice cut in firmly. "You don't treat Bill like a friend do you? He's your knight maybe, but not your friend. He's expected to jump when you say so, adore you from a distance, and give his life for you but...you don't really do the same in turn do you? Sorry Princess, but I've got better things to do than worry about stepping on your status quo." Yes, maybe she was being a little mean...didn't mean it wasn't true. And heavens knew Bill wouldn't say these things himself. Or even really realize them. He wasn't at that point of 'over Starla' yet.

"I beg your pardon?!"

"You heard me ma'am. You really don't have any right to be sticking your nose into Bill's life nor call to attempt changing it." Hell, she almost wished Bill had taken up one of the local women on a romantic offer just so she could inform Starla that Bill was quite capable of being happy despite the princess. Oh well.

"Bill and I have been friends forever! Of course I..."

"Stop that." Clarice sighed. "You want to pull the 'friends forever' card you'll have to tell me how a bright women like yourself missed the fact that he loved you all these years. Granted, I doubt you missed it at all. Was it comforting to know someone would also love you no matter what? Was it reassuring to always have that backup even if it wasn't the love you wanted?" There was perhaps a lesson in this. That lesson being 'Never wake Clarice up and expect not to suffer for it'.

"I never..."

"Stop it. You did and you know it. You're simply not that oblivious, no matter how well you pull the idiot act. After all, an idiot wouldn't have survived what happened here, Bill or no. The whole town knows, Starla, and you being the princess of the town, you couldn't have missed it. By the way, town ain't so happy with you now either." And they weren't. The gossip and grumbling is where Clarice got a lot of her background info on this situation!

"Would you quit saying what I do and do not think?!" Starla was past indignant now and into angry. Good. Angry people were easy to annoy more.

"Sure, I'm not a psychologist after all Mrs. Grant." Clarice chirped cheerfully. "But I will tell you a woman across the country calling the woman living in Bill's house and being disapproving doesn't fit the 'friend' category either. A friend who had just turned down a romance with Bill would be happy he had someone living with him to blunt the blow as it were. A friend would even be happy if Bill had a girlfriend waiting back home. What you sound like, right now, is more of a jealous manipulator than a friend, and frankly I'm surprised the town didn't turn on you sooner for how you played Bill."

Silence, blessed silence for a few moments then "Wheelsy never..."

"Didn't they?" Clarice smiled into the receiver. "Knights have always been more popular than princesses, especially a distant princess. I bet Bill was your only source of recent gossip, and now that's probably dried up as well."

"Do you have a point Clarice?"

"I've already made them." Clarice leaned back on the couch and stared up at the ceiling. "You've been dethroned in the small kingdom you had here, you've personally kicked your knight to the side, and now you think you have some reason to be involved in anything here? If I wasn't so tired I'd be laughing ma'am." Because the woman needed a severe reality check. Was Hollywood a good place for those? Eh, at least she wasn't the prettiest fish in the much larger pond there.

"When Bill hears..."

"Oh, yes, he'd probably be angry with me. But then you'd have to explain why you wanted to call and grill me now wouldn't you? I doubt he'd approve of the jealous martingale approach any more than I do." And Clarice could tell it wasn't even the fact that Starla wanted to live with Bill. No, it was the 'anyone is living with Bill' thing that was getting to the woman. Bill had his place at Starla's feet and even saying it wasn't so wouldn't change jealousy or anger over Bill not being there anymore. "Go ahead and tell him though. I can tell him most of the conversation verbatim."

"You...YOU!" Music to the pink girl's ears really.

"Yes ma'am, me. Thank you for calling Bill's phone! I hope you have a good day!" Yes, hanging up now. There was something very satisfying in hanging up on the woman, burying the phone in the cushions, and going back to sleep.

Home again home again ~Wheelsy AU

Starla pulled into the shadowy, covered garage, hiding them from the golden, liquid sun of Californian legend, and then found them a spot to park. Once she did that though she just crossed her arms on the steering wheel and peered toward the airport itself. It was hot out there...even in the shade. Plus she had felt on edge around Bill since she had talked to him when he arrived and...

...yeah, that wasn't exactly a good way to end things. "Well, here we are again." She had no idea where to go from there?

Wheelsy AU ~ Hollywood Nights

The airport was crowded an d bustling with tourists, the sunlight outside pooling through the plate glass windows like honey. Starla didn't mind the wait. Security meant she could meet him off the plane, but she could stake out the baggage claim where he was suppose to come out!

She was dressed simply in a blue sundress and sandals, nothing fancy, that was for late tonight at the premier. For now she was just a country girl waiting for a country boy and hoping he hadn't managed to get himself lost in the bowels of the airport.

Wheelsy AU ~ Bad nights

The scream was probably a little unsettling. Ringing out sudden and piercing in the night. The walls of the house and blankets over her head did little muffle it as she thrashed. Nightmares. She had them most nights but she usually managed to bite her tongue...

...today had been bad though. She'd started physical therapy for her arm, wore herself out, couldn't wake up as easily as she tended to. How she hated being broken and weak. It was bad for her mental state and brought on more nightmares.

"No NO NO NO NO NO!" Each word was accompanied by the thick thump of her fists on the bed as she worked to tear herself free from the past and finally ended up tossing herself straight off the bed with a firm 'thunk'. The jarring of her shoulder helped yank her free of sleep until finally, gasping, she was awake and shaking, nearly in shock.

Coffee. Caffeine. Something to keep her awake. She was NOT going back to sleep again after that.

That decided she stumbled down the hall to slump, shaking and exhausted, at the table. "Hell..." she muttered, thunking her forehead on the cool surface.

Wheelsy AU ~ Phonecall 1

Starla tapped her fingers on the counter and held the phone tucked next to her ear. It was clean, and neat, but not exactly the color she'd wanted for her kitchen. She'd have to see if the rental agreement would let her change the counters to something lighter, something less black marble and more wood perhaps? A light pine? Regardless, it was something to think about while the phone rang.

And rang.

And rang.

Of course Bill wasn't home, it was the middle of the day over on that coast! Why had she thought he might be? She nibbled a lip and heard the distinctive rattle of the answering machine getting ready to click over. All the money the government had thrown at Wheelsy to get it rebuilt from it's 'natural disaster' and Bill still hadn't upgraded to a better machine. "You still have a tape, Bill?" she laughed when it finally clicked on. "Still? Haven't I been telling you to upgrade since before I came out here? What happened to the one I got you for Christmas? I eve put a nice recording on it for you!" He was still Bill. Ever, and always, Bill.

"Anyway, that part I told you about? I got it! Not even an understudy, isn't that great?" She was beaming ta her kitchen, a bright, accomplished smile. "It's just like I dreamed back when we were little!" Oh, click, message ended. Oh she hadn't even...

...right, dialing back, listening to the rings. "Sorry about that. You need a better machine Bill! Anyway, I was wondering if you could get the 15th and 16th off next month? I've been saving a bit and I do still need an escort to the premier of our movie. Call me back alright?"

Ah, those phonecalls ~ AU Bill/Clarice

It had been a few days since his new patient appeared. Appeared being the operative term since Bill and the girl both had filled him in. On one hand, he was an old man and he didn't like the world getting set on it's ear so much. On the other, well, he'd always believed there was more out there, enjoyed X-files shamelessly when it was airing, and felt that Clarice was an excellent opportunity to observe alternate biology pathways.

Plus she was a cheerful, if bad patient.

It was the second part that had him on the phone to Bill.

Well, Bill's answering machine. "Bill, it's Dr. Mitchell. I nearly have all the proper paperwork done boy, and certainly not too soon. She's one of those type you know? Needs to be doing something. I nearly had to tie her arm to her side to keep her form doing arm exercises. As if she'd lose muscle mass that quickly! And the room, don't get me started on her cleaning, and moving, and sneaking off to read to the kids in pediatrics..." No, don't get him started.

"....who think she's a fairy by the way. I guess this is a roundabout way of asking if you've found anyone with a hunting cabin she can hole up in yet."

Canon AU ~ Clarice and Bill beginning

Owwwwwwww...

There was a flash of magenta light and the shadow of a woman flying through the air at a rather high speed. What world had it been? 739? Mutants Everywhere Planet, let's stop a serial killer because the Talus said so planet.

A super powered serial killer who had been rather hard to hit, much less hurt, especially with the team down several members. She'd been able to create an opening, at cost, for the others to take, but now, well, she was bleeding. And dizzy. And oh, that was a knife in her shoulder, huh, what if teh cops had needed that for evidence..

...right back on track. The talus had flashed, they'd been getting ready to leave and the partner, the killers partner that the Talus had told them NOTHING about had come careening in with a scream. Her lower arm ached, dully. and trailed more blood from where she'd lost the Talus. It had been ripped away and she'd been shoved through a half-formed portal. Not a fun ride.

By the time she tumbled to a halt she couldn't tell left from right, much less what world she was on. There could have been snipers in the trees and giant mutant snakes rearing to strike at her and she'd have just said 'Wha?'. She was...hitched up against a tree. Nice tree, yeah, she was going to...pass out now.

Yep.

Chaos Precip Bio

Name: Clarice Creed / Blink
Species: Olia
Canon: Exiles

Age: 20
Physical Sex: Female

Affinity: Space

Affinity Level: Master

History: Clarice was born about five months after the Solution, her mother was an aligned Olia of an earth affinity, but that hardly mattered because she mother fell into the hands of an insane life adept before Clarice was born. Her mother lived long enough to nurse Clarice for a few months, and play wet nurse to a host of other 'experiments' but she was gone before Clarice was a year old.

The next five years were a nightmare that occasionally still wakes her up. The rogue Nature Adept wanted to see what he could do with the powers he had been granted. There was never a plan she heard about beyond 'Because I can'. He changed her, and the other little children that he had, in ways that he never bothered to explain. Some of them, most of them, were obvious physical mutations.

Clarice doesn't claim to remember much, the painful process of cellularly and genetically inserting pigments into a body not meant to be such colors may have damaged that portion of her long term memory, or she could simply be very good at lying about it. Beside her memory, the way her genetics were twisted caused an odd quirk when she manifested her Space abilities. She is rarely able to teleport anyone or anything just by will, no matter how much her later teacher drilled her instantaneous teleportation remains a panic reaction. Generally she has to focus her powers into a 'spike' to trigger a portal effect. As a consequence she often carries a quiver of shaped spikes to focus her ability on. She also has the tendency to gain geometrically shaped 'birth marks', permanent skin blotches, during times of stress or extreme pain.

During her time in Marluxia's "care", she met TJ, someone she could trust and cling to as the years went by. The other little girl underwent a different set of tortures, and ended up different than Clarice, but regardless of the physical differences they became sisters in every way that mattered.

When Marluxia's experiments fell a group of people including Victor Creed, Nature Aligned, the girls were five...and Victor decided to protect and then adopt the pair. In the chaos of the breakout nearly all of the other people who had been warped and twisted were killed by those who had come to rescue them, not realizing that many of Marluxia's experiments were only children and many of them were still sane.

Being snatched up by Victor and carried far, far away was, without question, the best thing to have ever happened to Clarice and TJ. Victor chose to keep the girls as his own, raising them and being his intractable self when it came to their self-images and esteem. He took them to every Water and Nature adept that he could find, even to the extent of formally joining the Organization for first access at newly found ones in an attempt to cure the girls. One of the perks of this was that he and his girls encountered Wade Wilson, aka Deadpool, and while even he was unable to reverse the damage done to Clarice and her sister TJ he became an uncle-figure to both of them.

While the girls were young Victor was invited to join the caravan of Xaldin's mother's people. This group accepted them with only a little bit of hesitation, which faded to loving acceptance when they and their leader's youngest daughter became close. To this day, the girls tends to spend winters with the gypsy clan, rambling and story telling among friends through the cold weather. As for visiting their friend Larxene, she enjoys the time they spend in her cities. In truth they get a little wild when they drag their friend out to hit the town.

Clarice's first sexual encounter was with one of the boys from the caravan, a party was thrown when the child was determined to be viable and un-mutated by the caravan's Water adept. Yes, she was a little young, by Olia standards, to be having a child she wasn't really thinking that far ahead when she bedded the nice dancer. She had her child at the same time TJ had her first child, figuring that having their father go through the hand holding once was for the best, like ripping off a bandage. Victor Creed himself was horrified and personally punched the unfortunate fathers before sitting with his daughters. After a long night of stress and strain, Victor Wade and Wade Victor were added into the caravan with joy.

After the first child each the two girls struck out on their own, doing a variety of odd jobs suited for a pairing of Space and Water, while trying to deal with the prejudices of people who assume that they're Chaos Twisted. Due to Clarice's odd teleportation method, they sometimes get sent astray, especially when passing through a area experiencing a chaos storm, so the pair could pop up, literally, anywhere.

Clarice adores her "father", her "sister", and her "uncle" with a fierceness and joy that is hard to hide. Without the three of them, their unquestioning acceptance of her, and their own physical differences, she knows that she wouldn't be as sane as she is. Due to the wonderful people in her life she's managed to grow up into a strong, outgoing, and mischievous young woman who can laugh when people they meet ask about her sanity.
