The DINNER ~ Wheelsy AU

She'd been working two days, a day to get a handle on the simple art of flower arranging (complicated stuff would come later) and to start learning delivery routes. It had been nice to be moving again, doing something, anything, constructive and today...

...today she actually teleported back to Bill's house with an armload of groceries and flailed. "I'M RUNNING LATE! DID THE ROAST IN THE CROCKPOT TURN OUT...wait. YOU"RE NOT HOME ARE YOU?!"

It probably wasn't time for him to be home. Meep. Talking to an empty house and running late on starting the meal still! Right! Dough! Dough first, for bread and a sweet dough for tarts. Those needed to rise, then she could start peeling potatoes...

Right. She could do this. She flipped on the radio, tossed her floral shop hat on the counter and stared COOKING. Dancing and cooking but hey who didn't need music to cook well? "Knife!" she called out, years of habit having the warning go out amidst the music so no one got hit by the knife headed toward the sink.

She tended to throw things when she was cooking. Yep.

"You're afraid of my mom?" Bill chuckled, and he was teasing. He knew his mom could be kind of scary.

"She's a strong, independent woman. Bein' on her own raisin' me, I guess he had t'be. That's also what made her real protective, so yeah, she ain't one to tangle with."

"Not afraid! Wary. Wary is totally the term!" she grinned and hugged his arm around her. "Do you know what she wants for you, really? I know parents all have ideas about what future they want for their kids..."

He thought about it a minute, then shrugged a shoulder.

"To be happy, I guess. I think she worries about me bein' left on my own."

"Well..." crap. She couldn't promise he wouldn't. That was...not good. Still. "...do the best I can." And at least help him get over Starla?

Looking down at her, he quirked a smile and hugged her.

"It's just my mom bein' a mom. Don't feel obligated t'meet all her expectations at once." Leaning in, he kissed her again. "I happen t'think we're doin' just fine."

"I don't have that many super powers," she laughed. To fill all the expectations at once? That would take...a reality bender probably. Not that they didn't exist but Clarice certainly wasn't one!

"You really think?"

"Sure." He nodded. "We get along well, you ain't had t'stick me with one of your sharp pointy things yet, an' I like you. It's been fun, an' it's good havin' a girlfriend I know actually cares about me."

To Bill's mind these were all evidence that it was going well so far.

"To be fair you still have my decent sharp pointy things in lock up at the station." Because, apparently, they were safer there! "And I wouldn't want to stick anyone with the wooden ones I've made, they'd get infected or something!" Not that anyone had earned a stabbing. Still.

"And of course I care, you're worth caring about."

"I think around you even a toothpick has potential t'be a deadly weapon."

She had skills.

"An' see, when you say things like that, makes me feel like a lucky guy."

"Well, properly applied..." Any teleporter could be dangerous really!

"You're not lucky, you're just amazing, and relaxing, and fun to be around!" She reached up to tangle a hand in his hair cheerfully. more than happy to compliment.

Bill ducked his head away from the hair ruffling, grinning.

"Well then, lucky someone finally noticed my amazingness," he laughed. "Lucky or not, it still means we got a good thing goin' here, don't you think?"

Awww, she was going to have to actually sit up to chase his hair wasn't she? Yep, she was. Be afraid Bill!

"It's been there all the while Bill, I'm just the one who got to ignore the local rules about precedent and stuff." No lines, no rules about waiting for Bill to officially announce he was free, nope. Not for her!

And he was going to have to twist away to save his hair, while trying not to fall off the counter. Not an easy task.

"So then I guess that means you're the lucky one." He grinned, pulling his head back as far as he could.

"I prefer the term 'oddball'," she laughed and crawled up onto her knees to continuing chasing him. He couldn't get far, there was a cabinet there after all!

"Odd-- " he squirmed to get away and... 'THUNK', that would be his head knocking into the cabinet.

"Ow."

Obviously it was time to catch his head and pull him gently forward so she could kiss his less-than-broken crown!

He rubbed the side of his head that took the hit, but moved his hand when she pulled him into the kiss.

"I hit my head," he informed her with his best pout.

"Yes lover, you did," she chuckled and ran fingers along the back of his head to make sure he wasn't getting a bump.

He leaned into her touch this time, wincing just a bit at the small bump he'd given himself.

"Least I didn't fall off the counter."

"True, you're still very well balanced," she admitted and kissed his forehead for good measure. "Want to go snuggle on the couch? Maybe watch a movie? I think we get to relax now!"

"Must be learnin' it from you." She did have him hanging out in unusual spots.

"Hm, that sounds good." He was stuffed, and could use some time kicking back with her.

"Nah, balance comes naturally to most people if they don't think about it too hard," she gave him one last kiss then slid off the counter so he could move. "Alright, movie night it is!"

He hopped down after her, then turned to open the cupboard.

"Popcorn?" he asked, pulling out a jar of Orville Redenbacher.

"Still stuffed!" she laughed but leaned against his back. "But I may play with some if you make it?"

"Y'can't be too stuffed for popcorn. It's like Jello, or ice cream." He laughed, then dug around for a pot next, mindful of her leaning.

"I'll make you some, you can eat it or play with it, whichever you choose."
