Looking at her and her expression, though, he thought maybe she did understand what he was trying to say.

"You're beautiful, an' you're kind, an' I know you could kick my ass easy, so I just wanna make sure you know I'm not playin' you." He gave her a smile to show that while part of that was in fun, he was sincere about it, too.
