"Of course I know," she chuckled and reached across the table to poke his nose. "Doesn't mean I can't pout!" Witness her pouty face!

POUT!

"And yay American food. I'll snag a burger too. That way there's no mistakes in the kitchen."

Bill nodded and waved over a waitress.

He ordered the burgers big, doubled the cheese, and of course added bacon, with beer on the side.

When the waitress left with the order he gave Clarice a smile.

"So, thanks for gettin' us here. I really was lookin' forward to gettin' out for a night."

"Hey, you deserve nights out just like anyone Bill," and 'out' sometimes meant 'out of town' and 'away from everyone looking at me funny'.

"Besides, it's a chance to observe you outside of your natural Wheelsy environment!"

He laughed at that, reaching for the bowl of peanuts on the table.

"What, am I science project now? 'Bill in the wild'?"

"Nah, you're just fun to watch." She leaned back in her seat comfortably and grinned across the table at him. "See? Like that right there, the smile tugging at your lips? Fun. And I bet you you're gonna look down at the peanut in your hand instea dof me until you can not blush..."

Hee?

"What? No, I-- " he glanced at the peanut, tried to find somewhere else to put his eyes, and finally ended up fiddling with the salt shaker and clearing his throat.

"I don't blush."

She chuckled softly and reache dout to tweak a bit of his hair gently. "Don't worry, you'll never beat me out in the pink department." So no need to worry or be self conscious right?

"You're not used to being complimented, which is weird to me given you're wonderful, so you get all hot and bothered when you do get complimented."

He glanced over and smiled, and it was more genuine and less flushed.

"It depends on who's doing the complimenting." Coming from her, a blush is almost always guaranteed.

"Is there someone else in your life who compliments you profusely?" She held a hand to her chest, dramatically shocked. SHOCKED! "Who are they? Tell me! I should make them an award for joining my 'get Bill smiling' crusade!"

Bill laughed, made a show of thinking about it, then replied with a bit of sheepishness.

"My mom? Sometimes."

Giving her a grin, he looked up as the waitress arrived with their beers. Accepting his, Bill took a drink.

"So maybe I don't get a whole lot of compliments. It just explains why it's so weird for me to accept them."

She gasped, hand still held to her chest because, well, fun to ham it up! "No? No! You deserve so much more! I will have to recruit you a cheer team..." or something.

She probably could...

"We could wear short skirts and be excitable at you!"

He snorted a laugh into his beer.

"Please don't. I been over cheerleaders for a long time now."

"Well, cheerleaders in adult clothing," she allowed after a moment of thought. "I can't pull off highschool gear. I've tried." It was bad. Very bad!

"And you don't have to be in padding to be complimented? C'mon, it'd be fun..."

He shook his head, chuckling at the thought of her trying on a high school cheer outfit.

"No, it just seems like it'd feel like some sort of intervention."

"Oh dear, that wouldn't be the intent at all." She chuckled and and drew a finger along the rim of her beer mug. "What kind of intervention would require cheer outfits?!" His world was weird!

"The kind I left town to avoid."

He really didn't want a 'cheer the heartbroken Bill' rally.

She thought then one over and then shook her head. "Nah, they weren't dressed for it." At all. "Can you imagine yoru other deputies in cheer outfits?! I bet it could be a fund rasier!"

"Fund raiser for what?"

Bill sat back as their food arrived, taking a drink and smiling into his mug when he got a look at the burgers.

"Now that's a good lookin' hamburger."

"I dunno, what do you want money for?" They could find something, and it would be hilarious

Oooo, food.

"Yep, they win the beauty contest today. Sorry Bill, you're second now."

Bill took a giant might from his burger, and thought the question over while chewing.

"New truck tires?"

"Good call," Clarice chuckled. "And it'd be a public service to not have the sheriff stuck on the side of the road!" Assuming they didn't make enough in pool bets tonight anyway!

"You're very practical Bill. Don't you want anything fun or silly?"

He used the back of his hand to wipe off a glob of ketchup from his chin, and shrugged.

"Well sure, I wouldn't say no to a new TV, or a pair of Super Bowl tickets, but I wouldn't feel right havin' folks raise money t'give 'em to me."

She tossed a napkin at his hand so that ketchup wouldn't end up on anything he touched later and then stretched until she could put her feet up in his lap. Yes, Bill made good furniture. "That's not what I mean by silly Bill!" THINK BIG MAN!

"Just random, silly things you know you'll never get but have fun talking about!"

Bill accepted the napkin and set his burger down to clean his hands.

"Alright, what would you ask for, then?"

"If I had money? Hmmm." She thought about it, tapping a finger on her chin to think about it then grinned. "A new battle dress, a party, maybe two, different kinds of parties, maybe a bag of diamonds and a puppy."
