"It would be mean," he agreed, "So let's not do that."

Because he didn't feel like walking so much anymore.

"Sounds good to me. There's even a parking lot that's mostly empty after business hours." He figured the more space for landing the better.

"Some days I feel mean," she admitted cheerfully. "But not with you so yeah, no." Not doing that!

"Parking lot sounds good, still need a picture though. So, off to find a computer?"

"I appreciate that." And even though they were joking, he really did.

"Computer, yeah. C'mon, you can do the internet thing an' I'll call about my truck." It was for the best he not be in charge of the computer part of this mission.

'Yeah, that's why I'm les smean around you," she grinned, totally teasing but hey.

"I can dash to the library then? Meet me there?" She could run there easy, it was almost the same distance away as the precinct.

"Alright. It'll just take me a few to make the call, so I'm right behind you."

"Alright, don't make me come looking!" She grinne dand ruffled his hair before dashing out the door. What? She liked running!

The library ladies were nice?

And it wasn't hard to get satellite pictures of the nearby town either! Gotta love the internet and Google Earth.

"Hey!" He complained good naturedly, smoothing his hair down with his hand.

It didn't take long to get the truck taken care of, and he was soon strolling down the road.

She might like running, he was more of a meanderer, given the choice.

She WAS going to get him running. She'd work him up to that , naturally, but she wanted a running buddy and he was it.

Unless he recruited one of the deputies to stand in for him or something! Wouldn't that be fun...

She was sitting on the fence across from the library when he arrived, chin in hand and obviously waaaaaiating for him..

She'd have to do it by dragging him, but more likely than not, she would eventually get a running buddy out of him.

Maybe.

Walking up, hands in his pockets, he smiled at her.

"What? Couldn't meet me halfway?"

"And risk you having had to pop over to explain to the tow driver why your car was stuck and you weren't? You wander Bill! You're hard to predict!" Plus she'd gotten a popsicle from somewhere. Probably the ice cream truck that could still be heard faintly jangling a few streets over.

"Bomb pop?"

"Nah, just told him what was up, where t'get it and that I'd be home eventually."

Walking over, he hopped up to join her on the fence, looking expectant, because of course he wanted a Bomb Pop.

"I wander? An' I'm unpredictable. I think you just described my opposite."

She passed him his treat after a brief flicker of light. What? Best way to ensure he still had a frozen treat was to store it in his freezer at home! "You wander Bill, though you don't mean to and if you can untangle the social mess you're easy to track? You say you're headed somewhere, and you do get there eventually, but you don't hurry and you don't mind side tripping if it's not an emergency and someone wants to talk to you!"

He blinked at the appearance of the popcicle, but to his credit didn't hesitate in taking it from her.

Sucking on the Bomb Pop he listened to her and chuckled.

"Know me pretty well, don'tcha?"

He couldn't deny any of what she just said.

"S'just part of my easy goin' nature, I suppose."

"I just pay attention." It wasn't hard to pick up on after all. "Besides, once people learned I was living with you I'd get 'Where's Bill at?' a lot when they were looking for you!" And to be fair she still got it, if they could find her.

"And I think the wandering is also a bit of reassuring yourself. You like to check in on and see people and areas of your town and wandering feet is a good excuse to do that."

"Yeah, I'm a ninja like that," he said about people trying to find him.

He munched his way through one layer, and was on to the second.

"It makes me feel good knowin' things are runnin' well, an' folks are doin' alright. Plus, y'know some feed me when I come around, so... " He gave a shrug and a grin.

"Ninja Bill," she cheered teasingly. "Want to learn some hand to hand? I can teach you to throw those ninja star things!" She would totally have fun if he threw things too!

"Ninja with a wandering stomach..." And her popsicle was melting. Oops. Damn. She spent several minutes playing clean up. "But I like you feeling good so it's fine."

"Ninja stars would be cool." As long as he didn't hurt himself.

"Hey, it takes a town to feed a sheriff, or something." Yeah that wasn't the phrase, but Bill felt it should be.

As his own popcicle began to dribble Bill picked up the pace, and soon he was licking the stick clean, with very little mess.

Skills, he had them?

Tucking the stick into his mouth, Bill hopped down from the fence and offered Clarice his hand.

"Shall we?"

"Ninja stars are always cool, unless they're being thrown at you, then they're not so cool..." Oh the Hand, how she disliked them! But hey could learn! Easy!

She finished her own popsicle then eyed his offered hand with a syrup-stained grin. "You sure you're up for this?" Too bad if he wasn't, she was slipping off the fence and taking his hand anyway!

Her popsicle stick was being sacrificed to the greater good of traveling!

Ew.

Looking at his hand, Bill shook his head at her.

"You teach me ninja stars, an' I'll teach you how t'eat a popcicle." That seemed a fair trade to him.

Hey, it wasn't that bad! She'd gotten most the sticky!

Her hand was fine.

"Sure sure, tease the girl who grew up without a freezer." Step lively now, that portal was as small and not-glowy as she could make it so people wouldn't notice it!

"I'd hate t'see the mess you'd make with a slice of watermelon, or some barbeque." Yes he was gonna tease, because it was fun, and because it helped him not think too hard about the whole teleporting business.

Just because he'd done it once and learned it wasn't so bad, didn't mean he didn't still have a few nerves about it.

He soon found out there was still nothing to it, though, as he stepped through to the other side.

"Bill...you act like I've never eaten before." She snorted. Watermelon and Barbeque were normal things after all! Utterly normal and not requiring freezing at all!

The portal flickered close behind them and she snickered. "I can even eat watermelon that has had Forge's engine degreaser added to it without passing out so I have passed every watermelon test I know..."

"Yeah, but did you make a mess with it?" Because that was the challenging part.

Looking around, he smiled.

"Wow, just where we meant t'be. You're good."

Giving her a nod, he started walking in the direction he knew the bar to be.

"Nope." She sniffed and dropped his hand in favor of hooking her arm in his. Easier to walk that way right? Also less self conscious about a sticky hand!

"And of course I'm good. I wouldn't trust the town sheriff to anyone but the best." She'd been leery about those plane pilots! She had!

He accepted her arm in his easily, and led the way.

"Well you're the best I know at doin' what you do, so I know I'm in good hands."

He got the door when they reached the bar, and stepped inside with her.

"Wanna get a table? We can grab a bite first, then see about some pool in the back?"
