Wheelsy AU ~ Hollywood Nights
The airport was crowded an d bustling with tourists, the sunlight outside pooling through the plate glass windows like honey. Starla didn't mind the wait. Security meant she could meet him off the plane, but she could stake out the baggage claim where he was suppose to come out!
She was dressed simply in a blue sundress and sandals, nothing fancy, that was for late tonight at the premier. For now she was just a country girl waiting for a country boy and hoping he hadn't managed to get himself lost in the bowels of the airport.

"Because it's a place full of things to see and do that are utterly alien to you and your experience? It's a place full of tourists, you wouldn't stand out, and you'd be a lot more courteous that most."

"What's a place like this got t'offer me?"
Cars were still zooming around on the roads out there, and there were more lights in a few of blocks than there were all over Wheelsy.
"I wouldn't even know where t'start."
He was curious, though. A least a bit.

"Most of the tour place sin big cities will have larger ads that list their types and attractiveness. You probably won't care much about an architecture tour for example but you might like a movie set tour?" And why not? "Like any place that isn't home it offers the chance to see new things. Experiences are nice things to get when you know you can go home and not have to live there."
no subject
"I guess a tour wouldn't be so bad. Someone else'd be doin' the drivin'."

"If I don't feel too lousy tomorrow I'll give it a shot."
Having pictures and stories to tell about touristing in California would also mean he wouldn't have to talk so much about what happened with Starla.
"I was at least bright enough t'bring along a camera, so I guess I outta try an' put it to some use."
no subject
"And yes, take pictures! Pictures are important if we want to bop back over there for something!" In a purely teleporter sense!

Think about it, at least. But maybe it was a good idea. If he went out he wouldn't have to sit here alone thinking about what happened.
It might be just what he needed to do.
"I promise to at least get you a few pictures."
She would still have a heck of a time to trust one of those portal things.

"Thank you Bill, you're too good to me." And she meant it to. "Now you get some sleep alright?"
no subject
"Alright, I will." Working his throat quietly, he gave a small, warm smile into the reciever.
"Thanks for callin' an' talkin' with me tonight. I appreciate it."
He had planned on getting through tonight alone, but having a friend was much better.

"I'll call back tomorrow night after your thing alright? Update you on anything here, tell you if deputy idiot got sloshed again..." Or just chatter at him! She did what she could!

A yawn creeped up on him, and he pulled the phone away to let it out.
"Have a good night, Clarice."
no subject
"Sleep well Bill." She'd hang up when he did! "Put aspirin on your bedside!"
no subject
"I'll do that. Goodnight."
He hesitated, then hung up.
There was still beer in the fridge, and an ache in his chest, but Bill wasn't going to stay up with them.
Setting the phone on the night stand, be got himself aspirin and some water, put those beside the phone, and crawled into bed.
Tomorrow he'd drag himself out of it, and maybe he would see what a few sights. It would be a step in the direction of moving on after he'd been hung up for so long, and that was something he'd need to do after finally getting his answer from Starla.
